FUSE (SWI)
sunbea.ch-club, Münchenstein,  Switzerland – 21.09.2024
It had been a while since the local band FUSE performed live on stage. The reason for the hiatus was the departure of two band members Jerry „JT“ Ferrat and Stephan Schneider. Gianluca Botta and Päddy Kälin became the new members on bass and guitar. A first show was announced at sunbea.ch-Club aka „Dörfli“  in Münchenstein and the fans were happy. I didn’t want miss this premiere and visited the venue again. The band members entered the stage at 9:15 pm. The evening started with „Forgotten“ after an intro.  I noticed that the band was getting harder and the and the audience was able to enjoy new songs alongside well-known numbers such as songs like “Real Temptation” and “Control”. Guitarist Paddy kicked ass with guitar solos and had a lot of fun. Bassist Gianluca caused enthusiasm with his changing facial expressions and dexterity. He searched contact with rhythm guitarist Stefan Christen and lead guitarist Paddy to compete in guitar duels. It looked causal and pretty cool. Frontman Rob sang well and put a lot of emotion into the vocals. He talked about the background of the songs, such as “Prisoner”, which is about breaking out of the rat race and negative things. After the gas pedal was consistently pressed down, it became quieter. “With You” began with acoustic sounds and Rob took a seat on a bar stool with a microphone and rhythm guitarist Stefan switched to acoustic guitar and accompanied him sitting on a bar stool. However, the heaviness returned in the middle of the song. It was noticeable bassist Gianluca only played his instrument with his fingers and without a plectrum. You don't see that often. After another, quieter song called “Mudslide”, things got harder and faster again with “Snowblind”. Nothing to do with Black Sabbath, but still sounds great. The words “Your Philosophy” were shouted along with singer Rob and the crowd was asked to shout “Hey”. They complied without hesitation and put a smile on Rob's face. After the cell phone zombie invasion song “Native Zombie”, “Anywhere” was played as the last song and the members wanted to say goodbye and leave the stage. The numerous calls for an encore changed their minds and the Motörhead classic “Ace of Spades” was played as an encore in honor of the late singer Lemmy Kilmister. After that, all the powder was shot and Rob, Stefan, Gianluca, Paddy and Jerry left the stage after a closure photo. They received a lot of applause for their performance. It was a good gig, but the mixing that night wasn‘t good. Jerry's drums and Paddy's guitar were very much in the foreground, while Stefan's rhythm guitar couldn't be heard and Gianluca's bass was partially audible. In addition, Rob's vocals were drowned out by the sound. Technically a great gig, there needs to be a sound engineer on site who is familiar with the conditions and gives the band a top notch sound  that the music can really unfold next time.
