Audioactivity (ESP/SWI)
It’s been awhile since I visited the sunbea.ch-Club or „s‘Dörfli“ in the municipality of Münchenstein. An event with the band Audioactivity from the city of Basel appeared in the social network Facebook recently. My curiosity was aroused because the band consists of members from Spain and Switzerland, and the description of their background. This couldn’t have been a coincidence, and it brought back memories of past concerts at this venue. I went there to enjoy the weekend. Doors opened at 7 p.m. One highlight I have to mention here was the club’s beautiful interior decor. The wooden house structures made you feel as if you’d been transported to Central Switzerland, and that’s why the sunbea.ch-club differs from other venues. A cozy atmosphere took hold, and the mindset was having a good time. At 9 p.m., drummer Michel took the stage first, followed by guitarist

Jaime from Bilbao, bassist Alain, and singer/guitarist Alvaro from Madrid. However, they couldn’t start to perform because technical issues caused a delay. After Alain brought a new cable to Michel and replaced the broken one, Alvaro apologized to the audience. Then they started. The first song with the appropriate title  “Welcome to the Show” rang out. Singer and guitarist Alvaro, wearing a light blue Radiohead T-shirt put his heart and soul into it. Every syllable was sung with power, and he also impressed with his stage presence. He cut a fine figure on guitar and interacted with the audience. His bandmate Jaime, wearing a black Mötley Crüe T-shirt with a pentagram, played lead guitar and convinced with precise solos in the spotlight, occasionally backing up Alvaro on vocals. Bassist Alain, wearing a black hat, was completely immersed in the sound. Drummer Michel, with his precise punch in the background, blended in seamlessly, and the band appeared confident and clearly enjoyed the opportunity to play live. Alvaro said, “Oh, guys, it’s very hot up here” after  “In the Meantime”. He gave a warm smile and connected with the crowd. Many audience members were from the Spanish-speaking community, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The track “Los Angeles” was played with the announcement “Here’s a song about the city of Los Angeles”. When “You Know My Name” by Chris Cornell was played, Jaime walked through the audience and stopped in front of the stage to show his dexterity. A short break occured. This welcome opportunity was used to hydrate and take a deep breath. Alvaro took his seat at the keyboard at 10:25 p.m. The second half of the set kicked off with the Green Day classic “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” It was great to see him on that instrument because it allowed to convey more emotion. The INXS classic “Mistify” was performed brilliantly, and the energy spread to the audience, who started moving more. Jaime got to shine as the lead singer in Dust’n’bones” by Guns’N‘Roses and took the spotlight, before Alvaro suddenly stood up, strapped on his red guitar, and backed him up on vocals. In my opinion, it was a great gesture because it allowed Jaime to take on a different role. There was a festive atmosphere and the raw energy of rock music took hold. In addition to their own songs, they also performed cover versions. They paid tribute to the recently deceased rock legend Roberto Iniesta Ojea known as “Robe” of Extremoduro with the song “miedo” by Extremoduro that night. Coincidentally a woman in the audience with roots in Extremadura was there and was thrilled. Audioactivity’s music is deeply rooted in the grunge and alternative sounds of the 90s. Raw, honest, and uncompromising, their sound felt like a tribute to that era, and they received more applause after every song. The audience was disappointed after “Lifewired to Freedom” when  Alvaro’s announced: “That’s it for now.” Loud calls for  “Encore!” and “More!” followed in response. For this reason, they played “Standby,” and their cover of the hit “Entre dos tierras” by Héroes del Silencio ended the show. Alvaro, Jaime, Alain, and Michel received a standing ovation for their fantastic performance. They took a bow and left the stage.
