Once upon a time an actress called Marilyn Monroe lived in the USA, who celebrated sensuality and beauty through her looks and manner. Unfortunately, she died tragically at the age of 36. However, this isn‘t about this icon of American movie history, but about the Swiss metal band Bad Marilyn. This group was founded in 2023 and has a line-up of experienced musicians. There’s singer Andrea Raffaela (ex-Infinitas), guitarrist Sammy Lasagni (ex-Godiva, ex-Gods Of Silence, ex-Kirk), keyboarder Andri Leonardo, bassist David Craffonara and drummer Armin Schöpfer. I was able to see them in an intimate event in December 2023 and later as support act of Crystal Ball at Rockfact Music Club in Münchenstein where they did a great impression. Their debut „Eye Of The Snake“ was recorded at Kangaroo Studio & The Track Shack Studio in Karlsdorf-Neuthard in Germany and at The Hämst Studio in the municipality of Thürnen, canton of Baselland, Switzerland. Dennis Ward produced, mixed and mastered the album. The members Sammy Lasagni and Andri Leonardo co-produced the album. The music is a mixture of heavy / power metal. The riffs of guitarrist Sammy Lasagni are impeccable and with great solos which find their way into the mind and stay. The beautiful melodic carpet of keyboarder Andri Leonardo creates a catchy sound with heaviness. What I really like is that Andrea can switch between clearly sung passages and evil death metal growls with her voice, adding another nuance. Bassist David and drummer Armin add the groove, which gives the whole thing even more fun and pressure. Highlights on the album include the opening track “I Die Inside”, where they step on the gas right from the start. It continues in the same way and the musicians show a lot of passion and joy in every second. Furthermore, there is never a dull moment because there is so much variety. A high quality standard prevails. Although most of the songs are mid-tempo, the bonus track “Stay Awake” is quieter and gives the listener time to catch their breath and deal with the theme of loss. If you like a mixture of heavy/power metal with occasional death metal growls, you should listen to “Eye Of The Snake” by Bad Marilyn. No Swiss band has been this charming and enchanting for a long time. It's like Marilyn Monroe had transported a touch of her sensuality and beauty from the past into the present. 11.5/12 Review by Dominic Latscha
