Unexpected Fall (SWI), Torchlight (SWI)
The second last day of November and great sound. The Swiss band Unexpected Fall announced to make the walls of Rockfact Music Club vibrate with their post grunge. Torchlight was added to the program as opening act. An interesting starting point because the focus was more on rock than metal this time. You headed to Münchenstein without hesitation to enjoy this sonic brew with all our senses. The doors opened at 8 pm and Torchlight started at 8:50 pm. The band from the municipality of Magden, canton of Aargau was unknown to me. The anthem of the band „Torchlight“ started off. Musical diversity and creative freedom are important to them, and this was evident during their performance. Singer Corinna focused on vocals, but she was

supported by rhythm guitarist Sämi and lead guitarist Oliver with background vocals. This collaboration harmonized perfectly at all times. The enthusiasm of the five-piece was palpable in every syllable and note they sang. The music was catchy and varied. Oliver's voice reminded of Metallica singer James Hetfield in the song “Hold my Hand” for a moment. It was a cool effect that stuck in the ears. He was able to demonstrate his skills with guitar solos and did a grat job with his clean playing style. After Lindy’s departure, Corinna was allowed to sing live for the first time and hit the notes precisely. Bassist Ursula inserted the groove and beamed with joy. The sound was well-received by the audience, which was reflected in applause. A very interesting and unusual scene occurred during “Motherless Child.” At the beginning, Oliver hung a ukulele around his neck and played it while carrying his guitar underneath. It looked extremely funny to be equipped with so much “luggage,” but he did it confidently and put it down after. The song turned out to be half acoustic/half electric. Sämi couldn't hear his guitar before “Hurt Myself” anymore. He played the strings, but no sound came out of the speaker. After a few minutes, the cause was found and the cable was replaced, and Sämi was able to continue. The performance of the five-piece was coherent and enriched by various rock music influences. When the last song, “Pussy,” was announced by Corinna, some people had the feeling that a cover of the same Rammstein hit would be next. In this regard, the audience was completely wrong, but the song was convincing. The audience demanded an encore loudly due to the good atmospher. Their desire was satisfied with “Get Out”  and the performance came to an end. Corinna, Sämi, Oliver, Marc, and Ursula bowed and left the stage. Fifty minutes were enough to make a good impression. The lights went out at 10 p.m., an intro blew out the speakers, and the members of headliner Unexpected Fall came on stage. “Victim Of The Storm” was the first song they played. In contrast to the opening act, their music was much harder and faster. Guitarist Sascha von Arx played great solos and engaged in guitar duels with bassist Holger Neu, both of whom looked great. It was impossible to name a winner, as both were masters of their craft. Singer Marco Ryf put a lot of emotion into his vocals, creating a sense of proximity. Their music is post-grunge and alternative rock with some metal influences, which comes across in an interesting way. The audience went through a rollercoaster of emotions thanks to the selected setlist of more harmonious and harder songs. The performance was a good opportunity to promote the album “Dark Beautiful Mind.” Catchy melodies and a driving beat from drummer Bob created excitement. The varied lighting was another plus and fit the mood of the songs like a glove. There were many changes of sides by the members. Holger ran across the room during the performance and returned to the stage. singer Marco ran off the stage after “Rage” and his colleagues remained. Encore demands were the consequence, and he returned with the remark, “Somehow, the communication didn't work as planned.” He was embarrassed by the situation. Nevertheless, he kept smiling. Better safe than sorry, and the encores “Cut Those Lies” and “Parasite” followed. The clock showed 11:05 p.m., and the four-piece from the municipality of Alchenstorf, Canton of Bern, said goodbye after taking a bow. They made a very good impression on their live premiere in canton of Basel-Country. It's worth listening and expierencing them live. GB mixed Torchlight and Stefan Walker mixed Unexpected Fall. We were able to enjoy great sound quality throughout the evening by your work. Thank you very much for your contribution. The only negative point worth mentioning was the lack of audience due to other events taking place at in canton of Basel-Country the same time. Livereport by Dominic Latscha
