1987 was a year with some events. Ferrari introduced the Ferrari F40 sports car
for its 40th anniversary. Actor Bruce Campbell battled sinister demons in the
horror movie "Evil Dead 2" one more time and Pinhead haunted cinemas around
the world in the movie "Hellraiser". In the metal scene, hits like "Among The
Living" by Anthrax, "Into The Pandemonium" by Celtic Frost, "Keeper of the Seven
Keyes" by Helloween or "Hall Of The Mountain King" by Savatage had been
released. In addition, a heavy / thrash metal band called Downright Malice was
formed in the city of St. Louis in Alsace the same year. After the two demos
"Errare Humanum Est" and "Criminally Insane", their debut "In Doctrine... Nation"
was released in 1995. Their fifth album "Mechanica Temporis" was released last
year. The Alsatians paid a musical visit to a Switzerland and announced a concert
at Rockfact Music Club. Dead Born Vision were included in the program as support act. Dead Born Vision was the
first band to perform at 8:30 pm. The theme song "Ghostbusters" to the 1984 film of the same name by Ray Parker, Jr.
followed by changing lights, helicopter rotors that transitioned into another intro with oriental sounds marked the
beginning of their performance. The band was founded in Münchenstein in 2017 and consists of two women and three
men. So far I only knew the name and their first self-titled EP "Dead Born Vision" from 2018. In March 2022 their second
4-track EP "Reborn to Reign" was released and today appeared the opportunity to present these songs on local territory.
It became clear very quickly that the guitar fraction was exclusively in female hands during the show and bassist Dominik
Plein played his six strings without a pick. This is something you don't see every day and felt especially great and
exciting. The guitar riffs of rhythm guitarist Nicole Ackermann and lead guitarist Annette Zöller-Hannaford took no
prisoners and made their way into the brains of the audience, who showed joy and applause. Furthermore guitarist
Annette was allowed to shine with guitar solos. By listening, influences of Slayer and partly Pantera shined through,
which kept the mood high throughout. Singer David Ackermann was constantly on the move and sought contact with the
audience. His voice was reminiscent of ominous death metal vocals, but without growling as it‘s often celebrated in the
live sector. His singing was the center of attention, but the other band members Nicole, Annette, Dominik and Stephan
were allowed to contribute in between with sung one-line choruses. A brand new song „I lose control“ was played for the
very first time. "I saw them die" was about the Corona Pandemic and the many dead and mourning people. An
announcement followed by David that only new songs from the upcoming album in 2023 will be played from now.
Criticism of religions followed with "Religion" and a round of neck party with "Don't break your neck". Actually, the show
would have been over after "Loud and strong", but the audience disagreed and encore calls occured. That's why they
played "Cut and dried", where Annette came up with a guitar solo once again. After 70 minutes of playing time the five-
piece said goodbye to the audience and left the stage. A good performance of the local heroes.

It was Headliner Downright Malice‘s turn after a short interruption. I was very curious about this band because
persisting 35 years in the music circus isn‘t a matter of course and requires a lot of endurance and resilience. The
performance started at 10:20 pm after an intro with the band anthem, which was a bit special. Normally, this kind of
song is in the middle or end of the set. Although this wasn‘t a disadvantage for the four-piece from St. Louis, but an
advantage because everyone knew immediately, who was rocking on stage. Singer "Cliff" with white beard presented
himself top motivated with a lot of movement and put his heart and soul into the versatile singing. Guitarist Didier shone
with his dexterity and presented guitar solos under spotlight, which received much positive feedback. Bassist "Aris"
provided a catchy rhythm in cooperation with drummer Olivier and showed his satisfaction with smiles. A varied mixture
with different speed changes from thrash and heavy metal provided a lot of excitement. The members proceeded more
technically adept than their opening band due to their many years of experience. They went through the set with full
speed and the band members wanted to leave the stage after the party song "S.M.C" from the demo "Spit Your Hate
Out" from the year 2001. However, there was enough energy and fire left. The encore "Insanity" with Death Metal
influence was played and the audience gave everything again. Was this supposed to be the end now? Unfortunately, it
was the inevitable end and the equipment on stage was dismantled. A very good appearance from this band.

All good things come to an end and once again this realization came true that night. However, the memory of a great
event with lots of good music and happy metal fans remains. Jerry Thomas Ferrat was responsible for the flawless sound
behind the mixing desk.
